Emotional stability is the ability of a person to manage emotions in a positive way so that they do not affect their daily life. In other words, it is about the ability not to get carried away by negative feelings even if personal or professional conditions are not perfect.

How can I achieve emotional stability? 

Achieving emotional stability is not easy, and it depends a lot on the personal situations of each one and their lifestyle. However, as a general rule we can all work on it by following these tips: 

  • Spend your time itself:  we live in a society of speed and we always seem to be busy and do things. However, spending moments of solitude to think and be with yourself will help you to know if everything in your life is fine or if on the contrary there is something that is causing your emotions to get out of control. Think about it: if you don't talk to yourself about your feelings, who are you going to talk to?
  • Do not focus on the negative things, but on the positive:  when you have a hard time, you have every right in the world to be sad and dejected. However, you must not indulge in your misery forever because in the end, you will not be able to leave it behind. After a few days, you should start thinking about the positive things in your life: your family, your friends, the things you like to do, the things that you would like to do ... This will help you get up and move on. 
  • He thinks that not everything makes sense:  trying to make sense of everything is nonsense. Paradoxical, right? But it is like this! Things sometimes happen simply because they happen, and there is no more. It is better to accept it as it is before stopping the world to find an explanation since the only thing you will get is frustrating yourself. 
  • Remember that you cannot be in control of everything:  human beings are not in control of everything that happens around us, and it is better to accept it as soon as possible to avoid frustrations, fears, and anxieties. Change is normal, and unforeseen events are too, so take it easy!
  • Be rational:  the only way to control the tides of emotions is rationality. Therefore, when you feel overwhelmed by negativity, think rationally and reflect on if your anxiety is really justified, if it is worth feeling bad about what is happening to you, if the decision you are about to make makes sense, yes the cause of your ills is really so important… This will help you to realize when you are overreacting. 
  • If you notice problems, identify the cause:  if you feel that emotions are taking control of your life ask yourself why. Is it because of a personal relationship? Because of a work situation? Because of an unexpected event? The first step is to know what is hurting you in order to find a solution. This can be a daunting task, as sometimes the causes are long-lived experiences or buried memories. But it is important that you make an effort and investigate, and if you do not feel capable of doing it alone, that you seek the help of a psychologist.
